UN blacklists Israel: Decision taken after seeing atrocities on children in Gaza

UN has blacklisted Israel in view of allegations of human rights violations against it amid attacks in Gaza. According to the Times of Israel report, the United Nations (UN) has included Hamas and Palestinian Jihad in the ‘List of Shame’ besides Israel.

The office of UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres finalized this list with its annual report. After this, Israeli Ambassador Gilad Erdan was informed about it. This decision has been taken in view of atrocities on children in Gaza amid the war. This is the first time that Israel and Hamas have been added to this list.

Netanyahu said – By doing this, UN has been blacklisted in history

Reacting to the report, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said, “The UN has added our name to this list on the basis of absurd claims of Hamas. By doing this, Secretary General Antonio Guterres has got himself blacklisted in history. He promotes terrorism and hatred against Israel.”

Netanyahu said, “The Israeli Defense Force IDF is the most humane army in the whole world. No decision of the UN can change this reality.”

On the other hand, Palestine’s representative in the UN, Riyad Mansour, has said that adding Israel to the List of Shame cannot give a second life to those children who died in the Israeli attack. Still, this is an important step to register protest against Israel’s atrocities.

Russia was added to the list last year

Apart from Israel and Hamas, the UN list so far includes Russia, Afghanistan, Iraq, Myanmar, Syria, Yemen, Somalia, ISIS and Al Qaeda. Russia was added to this list last year in view of the atrocities on children during the war in Ukraine.

Earlier, it has been mentioned many times in the UN report amid the dispute between Israel and Palestine. However, till now it has never been added to the list. According to Al Jazeera’s report, 37 thousand 700 Palestinians have died so far in the Israel-Hamas war that started on October 7. These include 15 thousand 571 children.

Threat of famine in Gaza, 23 lakh people on the verge of starvation

Svere food poverty in Gaza

According to UN experts, the humanitarian crisis has increased in Gaza due to Israel’s ban on the supply of food, water, medicines and other essential goods. There is a danger of famine in many parts of Gaza. Earlier this week, UNICEF reported that 9 out of 10 Palestinian children are living in severe food poverty amid the war.

According to the UN, more than 2.3 million people in Gaza are on the verge of starvation. The worst situation is of children born amid the war. In April, 30 children under the age of 12 died of malnutrition in Gaza hospitals.
