New Delhi: Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have received a major setback amid IPL 2026, as captain Pat Cummins has passed the fitness test and is expected to join the team soon.
Cummins visited India before the season but did not play a match. He returned to Australia for further evaluation of his back after the thrilling win over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on April 2.
According to ESPNcricinfo, scans conducted in Sydney have cleared his injury, paving the way for his return.
Return date set
Cummins is now aiming to return for the match against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Jaipur on April 25th.
He has hinted via social media that he will return to India and join the team soon.
Cummins last played in the Ashes series in Australia. He has not played in any matches since and was also not part of Australia’s squad for the recently concluded ICC T20 World Cup 2026.
Captaincy in Cummins’ absence
Ishan Kishan is captaining the team in Cummins’ absence. Under his captaincy, SRH has won two out of five matches and is currently fourth in the points table, with a net run rate of +0.576.
SRH’s impressive run continues
SRH recently defeated table-toppers Rajasthan Royals, with debutants Praful Hinge and Shakib Hussain bowling brilliantly, taking 4 wickets each.
Chasing a target of 217, RR were bowled out for just 159 in 19 overs, giving SRH a 57-run victory.
SRH’s next match will be against five-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Hyderabad on Saturday.
