IRS Officer Ekta Bishnoi Wins Three Gold Medals at World Masters Powerlifting Championship

Reno: Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer Ekta Bishnoi has won three gold medals at the World Masters Classic Powerlifting Championship held in the US, performing brilliantly. Ekta lifted a total of 362.5 kilograms to take the top spot, surpassing strong competitors from Japan and Canada.

With this achievement, Ekta Bishnoi has created history. She has become the first Indian female powerlifter to win a gold medal in the Masters-2 category of this championship.

Powerlifting performance alongside government responsibilities

Ekta Bishnoi continues her rigorous powerlifting training while fulfilling her important government responsibilities as an IRS officer. Balancing her job and sport, she has brought glory to India on the international stage.

Just before the championships, Indian team coach Sunil Kumar’s US visa was rejected. This posed a challenge for the team, but Ekta didn’t give up.

She received guidance from coach Sunil Kumar via video call, while team official Binu Ibrahim supported her at the competition venue. Despite these challenges, Ekta performed according to her strategy and achieved a historic victory.

20 kg lead in squat

Coach Sunil Kumar explained that a scientific and results-oriented training strategy played a key role in Ekta’s victory.

He said, “Our strategy was clear. By the end of the squat event, we had a decisive 20 kg lead over our closest competitor. Ekta maintained this lead during the bench press as well.”

According to the coach, Ekta secured a historic gold medal for India by successfully lifting 150 kg in the deadlift on her first attempt.

Trains at Netaji Gym in Delhi

Ekta Bishnoi trains under the supervision of coach Sunil Kumar at Netaji Gym in New Delhi. Her teammate Ajay Tomar, also known as Acharyaji, expressed his happiness over her achievement.

Ajay Tomar said, “Our preparation before the World Championships was thorough and extensive. We had only one goal—to win a gold medal for our country, India.”

Ekta Bishnoi’s achievement is not only significant for Indian powerlifting but also serves as an inspiring example of achieving excellence in sports while juggling the responsibilities of government service.
