Hamilton: India Wicketkeeper Batter, Ishan Kishan, reached his 2000 runs in T20Is on Sunday during the fifth game of the series against New Zealand at Seddon Park.
Ishan Kishan Becomes Third-Fastest Indian to Score 2,000 T20I Runs
Kishan, who has been very quiet in this series and missed some games due to injury, scored an impressive 61 from 32 balls to reach the landmark, becoming the third fastest Indian batsman to reach 2000 runs in the shortest international format.
The intelligent left-hander reached his 2000-runs mark in 1345 balls in T20Is.
Abhishek currently holds the record for the fastest Indian to reach 2000 runs in T20Is in 1024 balls.
Surya is the second fastest in history, taking 1164 balls to score 2000 runs.
Kishan Makes Strong Comeback After Injury
Entering the 5th T20I, Kishan had scored 1 & 0 in the first and fourth T20I respectively, missing the middle two games due to a mild right adductor strain. He needed 45 to reach 2000 runs, which he did in a commanding knock. He reached the landmark with a stunning helicopter shot off Mitchell Santner to mid-wicket. He then hit a six to reach his 14th T20I half-century.
Scores 61 Runs Off 32 Balls
Kishan is now the third fastest Indian to reach 2000 runs in T20Is.
Behind him are modern-day Maverick Abhishek Sharma and sacked T20I Captain and India’s own 360 degree star Suryakumar Yadav.
Kishan eventually fell short of reaching a big score, scoring 61 from 32 balls. He was caught by Nathan Smith at deep mid-wicket off the bowling of Blair Tickner. However he still had a great innings, hitting 5 sixes and 5 fours.
Changes in Both Teams for Fifth T20I
Earlier, India were asked to bat first after New Zealand won the toss for the first time in the series.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Varun Chakravarthy returned for India with Mayank Yadav and Axar Patel missing out.
Blair Tickner was brought in for Matthew Fisher.
