Jalandhar: The Jalandhar Commissionerate Police has traced and safely recovered a 4-year-old child within eight hours of being abducted, while the main accused was arrested within 72 hours, according to a police press note issued on September 21.
The action was taken under the supervision of senior police officials after a case related to the abduction of the child was registered at Basti Bawa Khel Police Station.
Child Recovered Within 8 Hours
According to the police, the incident was reported on September 17, following which FIR No. 277 was registered under Sections 140(3) and 5 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Basti Bawa Khel Police Station.
Police teams were deployed immediately after the abduction was reported. The child was traced and safely recovered within approximately eight hours and handed over to the family.
The police said further investigation was initiated following the recovery.
Main Accused Arrested Within 72 Hours
According to the press note, the main accused, identified as Rajat Rattu alias Rocky, son of late Ramesh Pal and a resident of Madar village under Adampur Police Station in Jalandhar Rural, was apprehended through a confidential source.
Police alleged that Rattu, along with another person, had abducted the 4-year-old child with the intention of child trafficking.
The police said the accused had allegedly used an Activa scooter to abduct the child. A white-coloured Activa scooter without a registration number has also been recovered.
Search Underway For Second Accused
The investigation into the case is continuing, and police teams are making efforts to apprehend the second accused.
Police said the involvement of any other person will also be examined during the investigation. Appropriate legal action will be taken on the basis of the evidence collected, the press note stated.
The police said the investigation will be carried out from all possible angles.
