Jalandhar, Punjab: Employees at the Jalandhar Roadways Depot are continuing their strike for the third consecutive day to protest the non-cancellation of the tender for kilometer-scheme buses and the suspension of temporary employees.
Private buses are barred from entering the depot, and resentment against the government is growing among employees. The next direction of the movement will be decided after a meeting with the Transport Minister today.
For the past three days, employees have been protesting the cancellation of the tender for kilometer-scheme buses at the Jalandhar Roadways depot. As a result, no private buses are being allowed inside the depot. Employees have accused the government of neglecting the interests of the roadways, which has fueled their anger.
The government suspended the raw employees
Speaking to sources, Chanan Singh, head of Roadways Depot 1, said that the government suspended temporary employees on November 29th, but they have not yet been reinstated. He added that even after Chief Minister Mann’s statement, the suspensions have not been revoked, further fueling the employees’ anger.
Chanan Singh stated that a meeting will be held today in the afternoon with the Punjab Transport Minister and the employees. Only after this meeting will it be clear whether the strike will continue or the movement will be taken to the next stage. The employees are hopeful about today’s meeting.
