A man who had been on the run for nearly 10 years after allegedly murdering his daughter in Jammu has finally been arrested by the Delhi Police Crime Branch from the national capital. The arrest marks a significant breakthrough in a decade-old case that had remained unresolved since the accused managed to evade authorities after the crime.
Police officials confirmed that the accused had been declared an absconder in the murder case registered in Jammu. For years, investigators attempted to track him down, but he continued to evade arrest by frequently changing locations and staying under the radar.
The arrest came after police received fresh intelligence inputs regarding his presence in Delhi, following which a team from the Crime Branch launched an operation and apprehended him.
Daughter murdered in Jammu in 2016
According to police sources, the murder occurred around 2016 in Jammu, when the accused allegedly killed his daughter under circumstances that shocked the local community.
After the crime was reported, local police registered a case and began searching for the suspect. However, the accused managed to flee before investigators could arrest him. As the investigation progressed and repeated attempts to trace him failed, the court declared him a proclaimed offender.
The case remained pending for several years while police continued to gather information about his whereabouts and movements.
Accused avoided arrest by constantly changing identity
Investigators revealed that the accused successfully avoided arrest for nearly a decade by frequently shifting cities and avoiding contact with relatives and acquaintances.
He reportedly moved between several locations in northern India and lived under a low profile to escape police attention. Officials said he rarely used official documents or traceable phone numbers, making it difficult for authorities to track him through conventional surveillance methods.
Despite these challenges, police teams continued monitoring potential leads and maintained contact with sources who could provide information about his movements.
Crime Branch tracks him down in Delhi
The breakthrough in the case came when investigators received credible information that the accused was hiding in Delhi. Acting on the tip-off, the Crime Branch conducted surveillance to confirm the suspect’s identity and track his routine.
Once his presence was verified, a police team carried out a planned operation and arrested him from the national capital. Officials said the accused did not offer resistance during the arrest.
Following his detention, the suspect was interrogated about the circumstances of the crime and his activities while he remained absconding.
Accused to be taken to Jammu for trial
Police officials said the accused will be produced before a court in Delhi before being transferred to Jammu for further legal proceedings related to the murder case.
Investigators from Jammu police are expected to question him further to reconstruct the sequence of events surrounding the crime and gather additional evidence.
Authorities said the arrest could help bring long-awaited justice in the case, which had remained unresolved for many years due to the accused’s prolonged disappearance.
Example of inter-state police cooperation
Law enforcement officials highlighted that cooperation between police units in different states played a crucial role in tracking down the suspect.
The coordination between Jammu police and the Delhi Police Crime Branch helped authorities identify the accused’s location and carry out the arrest successfully.
Police also emphasised that even if suspects remain absconding for years, investigative efforts continue and eventually lead to their capture.
Justice after a decade
The arrest brings renewed hope for justice in the case that had shocked the local community in Jammu. Authorities said the case demonstrates that serious crimes cannot remain unresolved indefinitely and that offenders will eventually be brought to justice.
Police officials added that the investigation will now focus on completing legal procedures and presenting evidence in court to ensure that the accused faces trial for the alleged murder of his daughter.
