Kolkata: A Jharkhand woman has been arrested in connection with a suspected terror conspiracy involving a “honey-trap” operation allegedly aimed at targeting political leaders in West Bengal, including Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari. The arrest was made as part of an investigation into a suspected terror module being probed by the West Bengal Special Task Force (STF).
The accused woman, identified as Arpita Sarkar, was arrested from Jharkhand’s Sahibganj district. Investigators suspect her involvement in a network linked to Mohammad Hamim Mondal, an alleged operative of the banned terror organisation Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), who was previously arrested by the STF.
Probe Reveals Alleged Plan to Gather Sensitive Information
According to investigators, the suspected module was allegedly planning to use social media platforms and personal interactions as part of a honey-trap strategy to target influential individuals. The aim was reportedly to gain access to sensitive details related to political leaders, including their movements and security arrangements.
Officials are examining digital evidence, communication records and other material collected during the investigation to establish the complete chain of the alleged conspiracy.
Security Details of Political Leaders Under Investigation
The investigation reportedly gained momentum after authorities found inputs suggesting possible surveillance-related information linked to Suvendu Adhikari. Security agencies are now probing whether the alleged terror network had wider links and whether any further individuals were involved in the suspected plan.
The STF is continuing its investigation to uncover the full extent of the conspiracy and identify other possible members connected to the case.
