Srinagar: The Jammu & Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has launched a special internship programme to engage law students from reputed universities across J&K and provide them with practical exposure to the functioning of government departments.
Law Students to Gain First-Hand Government Experience
As part of its Vigilance Awareness campaign, the ACB has started the internship programme under which selected law students will be assigned to different government departments, particularly those involved in public service delivery.
The initiative is aimed at helping students understand how government departments function and gain first-hand knowledge of public dealings. Interns will also be able to assess and comment on aspects related to transparency in government functioning.
ACB Briefs Interns on Roles and Responsibilities
The Director of the ACB separately briefed the interns about the programme during sessions held in Srinagar and Jammu. The students were informed about the internship process, guidelines and their roles and responsibilities.
According to the ACB, the programme is intended to increase awareness among young law students about transparency, accountability and ethical governance while giving them an understanding of how public institutions operate.
ACB’s Role in Tackling Corruption
The Jammu & Kashmir ACB is the government agency responsible for investigating and combating bribery, financial irregularities and official misconduct among public servants.
The organisation was originally formed as the Anti-Corruption Organisation in 1962 and was later known as the State Vigilance Organisation (SVO). It was subsequently rebranded as the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) to modernise its operational capacity.
The Bureau functions under the Director, ACB J&K, and its work is distributed across eight territorial branches, each headed by a Superintendent of Police (SSP).
The Kashmir division includes specialised operational units such as Police Station ACB Srinagar, covering Srinagar, Budgam and Ganderbal, and Police Station ACB Anantnag. The Jammu division is administered through regional hubs, including the ACB Headquarters in Sidhra, Jammu.
