Karnataka Cong Infighting: BJP Predicts Changes from Dec 20

BENGALURU, Dec 12, 2025 — The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Karnataka has said it expects “dramatic political developments” from December 20 onwards, pointing to ongoing infighting within the state Congress as the driving force behind the prediction. According to BJP leaders, internal conflicts over leadership and power sharing could escalate sharply in the coming days.

Leadership Tussle and Internal Discord

The BJP has been highlighting a leadership struggle within the ruling Indian National Congress in Karnataka, particularly between Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar. While both leaders publicly deny any serious discord, BJP leaders argue that the ongoing “power tussle” and unresolved questions over roles have weakened the party’s cohesion and opened the door to political upheaval.

In recent weeks, top Congress figures including AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge have held deliberations with state leaders to try to manage the situation and reassure legislators that the party leadership is in control.

BJP’s Prediction of Political Shakeups

BJP state president B.Y. Vijayendra and other leaders have repeatedly claimed that the Congress crisis could come to a head around December 20, potentially resulting in changes in leadership positions or even a wider realignment within the state government. This includes speculation about the Chief Minister’s position and the possibility of unexpected political moves by dissatisfied legislators.

Opposition figures assert that these developments could weaken the ruling alliance, embolden rebel legislators, and place the government’s stability at risk as speculation continues.

Congress Denials and High Command Role

Despite the BJP’s predictions, senior Congress leaders have sought to deny any imminent split or leadership change. Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara has dismissed claims of formal talks on leadership changes during discussions with the party high command, calling such speculation “baseless political chatter.”

The central leadership has also been engaged in managing the internal tensions, emphasizing unity and continuity in government operations to avert any open rifts.

Broader Political Context

The BJP’s forecast of dramatic political developments comes amid broader criticism of the Congress government on governance and policy issues, which the opposition has sought to highlight through protests and planned legislative session strategies.

Political analysts suggest that with more than two years of the government’s term completed, and the next assembly election several years away, internal tensions could grow if unresolved leadership disputes persist, potentially reshaping the state’s political landscape ahead of key legislative activities.
