New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging the Centre to reconsider the rollout of E20 petrol for vehicles that are not designed to run on the fuel.

In his letter, Kejriwal raised concerns over the impact of E20 petrol on older vehicles and requested the government to provide alternatives for vehicle owners who may face difficulties due to the transition.
Kejriwal Raises Concerns Over Vehicle Compatibility
Kejriwal claimed that there is growing public concern over the mandatory use of E20 petrol in vehicles that are not E20-compliant.
He said several vehicles manufactured before the widespread adoption of E20-compatible engines may face issues related to fuel efficiency, maintenance costs and possible damage to engine components.
According to Kejriwal, around 30 crore registered two-wheelers and four-wheelers manufactured before 2023 may not be compatible with E20 petrol.
Seeks Option Between Petrol and E20 Fuel
In his letter, Kejriwal suggested that petrol pumps should provide customers with a choice between regular petrol and E20 petrol, especially for owners of vehicles that are not designed for higher ethanol-blended fuel.
He also urged the government to reduce the price of E20 petrol, stating that the fuel has lower calorific value and may offer reduced mileage compared to conventional petrol.
E20 Petrol Policy Debate Intensifies
The former Delhi Chief Minister said the transition should consider consumer concerns and ensure that vehicle owners are not forced to use fuel that may not suit their vehicles.
The Centre introduced E20 petrol as part of its ethanol blending programme aimed at reducing dependence on imported crude oil and promoting cleaner fuel alternatives.
The issue has triggered debate among vehicle owners, experts and political parties over fuel compatibility, mileage and long-term vehicle impact.
