Amravati: At least seven people were killed and 19 others injured after a truck rammed into a Bolero pickup van on the Samruddhi Highway in Maharashtra’s Amravati district in the early hours of Friday, police said.
According to a senior police official, the accident took place around 12:45 am near Channel 97, close to Dhamangaon railway station.
The truck collided with the pickup van, resulting in the deaths of five people at the spot. Around 21 injured passengers were initially taken to Dhamangaon Rural Hospital for treatment.
The injured were later referred to the Adani Institute of Higher Education and Research in Wardha, formerly known as Datta Meghe Institute of Higher Education.
An institute official said two more injured persons were declared dead after being brought to the hospital. One of the injured victims was subsequently shifted to Nagpur for further treatment.
Police have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances that led to the crash.
