The Growing Threat of Road Accidents in Afghanistan

Road accidents continue to be a serious problem in war-torn Afghanistan. Poor roads, speeding, reckless driving, and a lack of adequate traffic safety measures are considered the main causes of such accidents. The country’s difficult geographical conditions and limited transportation infrastructure also exacerbate the problem.

Earlier, on October 30, a passenger bus and an oil tanker collided head-on on the Salang Highway in Baghlan Province, northern Afghanistan. Five people were killed and 20 others injured, many of them critically.
