The death toll in the crash of a Nigerian military aircraft flying from Benin City to Lagos has risen to 32, with all passengers and crew members on board confirmed dead. The victims included 25 passengers and seven crew members.
Nigerian President Bola Tinubu confirmed that there were no survivors and ordered the Nigerian Air Force to conduct an immediate and comprehensive investigation into the cause of the crash.
Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo said the Air Force ATR-42 aircraft was carrying out a routine mission when air traffic controllers lost contact with it. The wreckage was later found near Igbokoda, a coastal town in southwestern Nigeria, close to a naval base.
Following the discovery of the crash site, search and rescue teams were sent to the area. Authorities have now begun efforts to determine what led to the fatal incident.
