Inclement weather in Himachal Pradesh has impacted the Kinnaur Kailash Yatra. Citing continuous heavy rainfall in the district, the administration suspended the pilgrimage on Friday. Pilgrims who had arrived at the Tangling base camp to undertake the Kinnaur Kailash Yatra were not allowed to proceed on Friday morning. Meanwhile, pilgrims who had reached the second base camp, Ganesh Bagh, on Thursday have also been held back there.
The administration is currently monitoring weather conditions. A decision regarding allowing the pilgrims to proceed will be taken based on the weather situation on Friday night and Saturday. If the weather remains favorable, 375 pilgrims could be sent off for the Kinnaur Kailash Yatra on Saturday.
Two Days of Continuous Heavy Rain
Weather conditions in Kinnaur district have remained poor for the past two days. Heavy rain occurred in several areas of the district on both Wednesday and Thursday nights. Due to the continuous rainfall, the decision to halt pilgrim movement was made in the interest of safety along the pilgrimage route. The administration’s priority is the safety of the pilgrims; the Yatra will resume only after the weather improves.
Pilgrims Halted at Tangling and Ganesh Bagh
Pilgrims who had reached the Tangling base camp for the Kinnaur Kailash Yatra were not permitted to move forward on Friday morning. Similarly, pilgrims who had arrived at the second base camp, Ganesh Bagh, on Thursday have been held back there. A decision on whether to allow these pilgrims to proceed on Friday night or Saturday will be made based on the weather conditions.
375 Pilgrims to Depart on Saturday if Weather Improves
Praveen Bhardwaj, President of the Kinnaur Kailash Yatra Organizing Committee, stated that the weather is expected to improve on Saturday. If conditions prove favorable for the pilgrimage, 375 pilgrims will be sent off on the journey. He added that future arrangements would be determined based on the prevailing weather conditions.
