Kolkata: A bomb scare was reported at Kolkata’s Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport after a threatening message was found written in lipstick on the washroom mirror of a flight arriving from Phuket.
The words “Bomb inside aircraft” were spotted by cabin crew members when they went to clean the aircraft’s lavatory after it landed in Kolkata. The message immediately raised an alarm and airport authorities were informed.
The pilot and security officials were alerted. The aircraft was then moved to an isolation bay, where passengers were safely taken off before security teams began checking the plane.
Personnel from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), the bomb squad and airport police carried out a thorough search of the aircraft. No suspicious object was found during the checks.
Officials suspect that the message may have been written to create panic, although the circumstances are still being investigated. Police are examining the passenger list and CCTV footage to identify the person responsible.
Kolkata Airport Reports Another Bomb Scare
The latest incident comes amid a series of bomb threats reported at Kolkata airport this month.
On October 23, a handwritten threat on a piece of tissue paper was reportedly found in a toilet at the airport. The note warned of a bomb near boarding gate number 30, prompting security personnel to clear the surrounding area and begin searches.
The bomb squad and CISF personnel checked the premises, while police questioned the cleaning staff member who discovered the note. CCTV footage was also examined as part of the investigation.
Another threat was reported on October 8, when an email claimed that explosives had been placed at the airport. Security agencies carried out searches after alerting passengers and clearing parts of the premises. No explosive material was found.
The repeated incidents have led to security checks at the airport, although officials reported no suspicious objects in the searches described in these reports.
Investigators are now working to establish who wrote the lipstick message aboard the Phuket flight and whether the latest scare is connected to the earlier threats.
