Chandigarh: Amreen Rai has been arrested in connection with the murder of property dealer Chamanpreet Singh, alias Chinni Kubbahedi, two months ago in Chandigarh. She has been associated with the BJP and is also reported to be active in social work. According to police, Amreen paid gangster Lucky Patial a contract of ₹50 lakh for the murder over an 8-acre land dispute.
Story from acquaintance to dispute
Amreen met Chinni through his son, who frequented the same gym. Amreen benefited from the initial property deal, which was followed by a larger land deal. However, Amreen later suspected she had been cheated, and this is where the dispute began.
Contact with Gangster Through Middleman
The investigation revealed that Mohali property dealer Harshpreet Singh arranged the connection between Amreen and gangster Lucky Patial. Initially, a demand of Rs 1 crore was made, which was later settled for Rs 50 lakh. The shooters were then prepared for the crime, providing weapons and an escape plan.
Shooting outside the gym
According to the police, the shooters first conducted a recce and then, on March 18th, opened fire on Chinni as he left the gym. The accused fled the scene after the incident.
The entire case was revealed after the arrest
On April 29th, the police arrested Harshpreet Singh with an illegal weapon, revealing the entire case. During interrogation, it was discovered that the recovered pistol was registered in Amreen’s name. Following this, the police also arrested Amreen and intensified the investigation, linking the case to a contract killing.
Family demands strict punishment
The deceased’s family says that if there was any dispute, it could have been resolved through negotiations. They alleged that their son was killed due to suspicion and that the culprits should be punished severely.
