Kullu Landslide Alert: Cracks Appear, 5 Houses Evacuate

Panic has gripped residents of Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu district after fresh cracks appeared in the hill area of Inner Akhara Bazaar, raising fears of another landslide. The situation worsened following continuous rainfall, which loosened soil and triggered falling debris in the densely populated locality.

Authorities acted swiftly after reports of stones and debris falling from the hillside, especially during the night, creating a sense of fear among locals already living under the shadow of past disasters.

Five Houses Evacuated as Precaution

As a precautionary measure, at least five houses in the vulnerable zone were evacuated, and families were shifted to safer locations. Officials said the move was necessary to prevent any loss of life in case of a sudden landslide.

Residents were asked to leave their homes immediately after visible cracks developed on the hillside and surrounding structures, indicating instability in the terrain.

Nighttime Debris Fall Sparks Panic

The situation escalated when stones and debris began falling again during the night, forcing people to remain alert and evacuate in haste. Locals reported hearing unusual sounds from the hillside, followed by minor collapses of loose material.

Such incidents have heightened anxiety in the area, as people fear a repeat of previous landslides that caused significant damage and casualties.

Area Already Marked as High Risk

Inner Akhara Bazaar has been identified as a landslide-prone zone, with past incidents causing severe destruction. Earlier landslides in the same area have damaged houses and claimed lives, leaving hundreds of residents vulnerable.

Experts attribute the recurring problem to a combination of factors, including continuous rainfall, loose soil structure, and unplanned construction in the hilly terrain. Accumulated debris from previous landslides has also remained a major risk factor, as it can easily shift during fresh rainfall.

Administration on Alert

The district administration has stepped up monitoring in the affected area and is keeping a close watch on the situation. Teams have been deployed to assess the risk and ensure the safety of residents.

Officials have also urged people living nearby to remain cautious, avoid risky zones, and report any signs of land movement immediately. Emergency measures are in place in case the situation worsens.

Residents Living in Fear

Locals say they are living in constant fear due to the recurring threat of landslides. Many families have already faced displacement in the past and are worried about losing their homes again.

The latest incident has once again highlighted the fragile condition of the area and the urgent need for long-term solutions, including proper drainage systems and slope stabilization measures.

With weather conditions still unstable, authorities have not ruled out further incidents. Continuous monitoring and preventive evacuations remain key to avoiding casualties. The situation remains tense, and residents are hoping for swift action to mitigate the ongoing risk.
