Kurukshetra: A 42-year-old shopkeeper was killed in a tragic road accident after a speeding Mahindra XUV allegedly entered the wrong lane and hit his bicycle near the Jurasi village turn-off on the Ambala-Pehowa Road in Haryana’s Kurukshetra district. The SUV driver fled after taking the injured man to a hospital.
Shopkeeper was returning after delivering milk
The deceased has been identified as Suresh Kumar (42), a resident of Harigarh-Bhaurakh village. He owned a milk dairy and a grocery store.
According to his cousin Gurpreet Singh, Suresh had gone to Pehowa on his bicycle to deliver milk. After completing the delivery and purchasing groceries, he was returning home when the accident occurred near the Jurasi turn-off.
SUV allegedly entered wrong lane
Police said a speeding Mahindra XUV (HR41F-9741), coming from the opposite direction, allegedly swerved into the wrong lane and collided head-on with Suresh’s bicycle.
The impact threw Suresh into the air, causing him to crash into the SUV’s windshield. He suffered severe head and leg injuries, while his bicycle was flung into a nearby field.
Passersby shifted the injured man to a private hospital in Pehowa in the same SUV. After first aid, doctors referred him to PGI Chandigarh due to his critical condition. However, the SUV driver abandoned the vehicle at the hospital and fled.
Victim declared dead, police begin probe
While being taken to PGI Chandigarh in an ambulance, Suresh’s condition deteriorated near Ambala. His family brought him back to LNJP Hospital, Kurukshetra, where doctors declared him dead.
Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to trace the absconding driver and determine the exact circumstances surrounding the accident.
