Kurukshetra: Six pilgrims were killed and several others injured after a tractor-trolley carrying a group of devotees overturned near Pindarsi village in Kurukshetra, Haryana, on Thursday.
The pilgrims were travelling from Kurukshetra to Gogamedi Temple at Bagar Dham in Hanumangarh, Rajasthan, when the accident took place on the Kurukshetra-Kaithal road near the Pindarsi village bus stand.
According to the report, around 30 pilgrims were travelling in the group. Local residents and police rushed to the spot after the trolley overturned and helped rescue the injured. Some people were reportedly trapped underneath the vehicle.
All the injured were taken to LNJP Hospital for treatment. Doctors declared several victims dead, while others were admitted to the emergency ward. Two women were reported to be in serious condition.
Trolley Overturns After Collision During Overtaking
The pilgrims were travelling from Kalal Majra in Sector 30, Kurukshetra, towards Bagar Dham.
According to the report, a trolley loaded with wood collided with the pilgrims’ trolley while overtaking near the Pindarsi village bus stand. The impact caused the tractor-trolley carrying the pilgrims to overturn.
Eyewitnesses described the accident as severe, with the trolley badly damaged. Police subsequently cleared the road and moved the damaged tractor-trolley aside to facilitate traffic movement.
Women and Children Among Those Killed
The report later identified the deceased as Leela Devi (58), Bala Devi (50), Bahoti Devi (60), Anjali (25), Anjali’s one-and-a-half-year-old daughter Seerat, and another child.
Leela Devi was a resident of Kalala Majri, while Bala Devi was from Jundla in Karnal and had reportedly come to visit her relative Leela before joining the pilgrimage to Bagar Dham.
The bodies of Anjali and her daughter Seerat were kept at Baran CHC, while the bodies of the other deceased were taken to the NNJP mortuary.
Pilgrims’ Belongings Scattered Across Road
The accident left the road littered with the pilgrims’ belongings, including footwear, clothing, food items and cold drink bottles.
Police and local residents assisted in clearing the area and helping the injured following the accident.
