A major landslide occurred in the Chirgaon area of Shimla district, Himachal Pradesh, on Monday morning. A large portion of the hill suddenly collapsed onto the road near the Janglikh Bridge, dumping heavy debris and large boulders on the road. Consequently, vehicular traffic on the route was halted.
Boulders Falling Since Sunday
According to locals, boulders had been falling intermittently from the hill since Sunday. The situation suddenly worsened on Monday morning, and a large portion of the hill collapsed and fell onto the road, causing panic among residents in the area.
At present, no injuries or deaths have been reported in the accident. A large portion of the road is buried under debris, disrupting traffic.
Officials Arrive at the Spot
As soon as information about the incident was received, administrative officials arrived at the scene and took stock of the situation. Necessary steps are being taken to remove the debris from the road and restore traffic. The administration is continuously monitoring the situation.
Water in the Sundaru Khad also affected
The landslide also affected the nearby Sundaru Khad. The falling debris temporarily disrupted the flow of water, raising concerns among locals about a flash flood.
SDM said: “There is no danger of a lake forming at this time.
Rohru SDM Dharmesh Ramotra stated that water has resumed flowing in the ravine and there is currently no danger of a lake-like situation forming there. However, he advised people living near the water to remain vigilant, as the water level could change suddenly.
Administrative teams are monitoring the area and are working to safely reopen the road.
