13 Bangladeshis arrested for illegally residing in Mumbai's Nalasopara

Mumbai: As part of a significant crackdown on unauthorized migrants, Mumbai Police have apprehended 13 Bangladeshi nationals who were illegally residing in the Nalasopara area of Maharashtra.

The arrests took place during a special operation conducted in the Ghatkopar suburb, as part of ongoing efforts against illegal migration, according to police officials. The detainees were found to have entered and remained in India without the necessary documentation.

The arrested individuals have been referred to the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) for deportation proceedings. Authorities highlighted the importance of compliance with the Foreigners Act, which is crucial for the effective monitoring and reporting of foreign nationals in India.

Police are ramping up their efforts to identify and take action against illegal migrants in the region. On Friday, the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS), in conjunction with local police, launched multiple raids in Thane, Navi Mumbai, and Solapur, targeting illegal Bangladeshi residents.

During these operations, 13 individuals—comprising seven men and six women—were arrested. Investigations revealed that they used forged documents to obtain Indian identification, including Aadhaar cards, which are reserved for legitimate citizens.

Three cases have been filed under the Foreign Nationals Act from 1946, the Passport (Entry into India) Act from 1950, and the Passport Act from 1967 following the raids. Earlier this week, another operation resulted in the filing of seven cases in Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai, and Nashik, leading to the arrest of 17 Bangladeshi nationals.

Teams from the ATS and police are interrogating the detainees and investigating the methods used for document forgery and illegal entry into the country. Further investigations are ongoing as authorities remain committed to eliminating illegal migration and ensuring national security.
