29 injured as 5.6 magnitude quake shakes Iran

Tehran: On December 6, a 5.6 magnitude earthquake struck the southwestern Iranian province of Khuzestan, injuring at least 29 individuals, as reported by the semi-official Fars news agency. The quake hit at 7:32 a.m. local time, at a depth of 10 km, with its epicenter in Haftkel County. It also affected Masjed Soleyman County and was felt in the provincial capital, Ahvaz.

According to Khuzestan Governor Mohammad Reza Mavalizadeh, all injured individuals, except for one child who suffered a leg fracture, were treated and released from the hospital. He also noted that 296 homes in Masjed Soleyman were damaged due to the quake.

In response, 12 rescue teams, consisting of 58 trained rescuers, have been deployed to assist in the affected areas. Additionally, the region has experienced more than 10 aftershocks since the initial quake, with the largest measuring 5.2.
