Asim Kumar Ghosh appointed 19th Governor of Haryana by President Murmu

Chandigarh, July 14: Professor Asim Kumar Ghosh has been made the 19th Governor of Haryana. On Monday, President Draupadi Murmu announced his name. Earlier, Bandaru Dattatreya was the Governor. He has held this responsibility since 7 July 2021. Asim Ghosh is a resident of Howrah, West Bengal.

Asim has been the state president of BJP in West Bengal from 1999 to 2002. Ghosh is the third governor who belongs to West Bengal. Before him, Birendra Narayan Chakraborty and Hari Anand Barari were from Bengal. He contested the by-election from Howrah Lok Sabha seat on a BJP ticket on 2 June 2013. This seat was vacant after the death of Trinamool Congress MP Ambika Banerjee. However, Asim Ghosh lost the by-election.

West Bengal BJP spokesperson Saurabh Sikhdar said that Asim has been a professor of political science at Kolkata’s Manindra Chand College. Tapan Sikhdar, who was a minister in Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s cabinet, brought Asim into politics. Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee handed over the reins of the party to him after seeing his expertise.

Asim played an important role in establishing the roots of RSS and BJP in West Bengal. Currently, he was working to take the party policies forward by being a part of the party’s Margdarshak Mandal in West Bengal.

West Bengal BJP’s State President Puts Forward Name

Sameep Bhattacharya, who recently became the State President of West Bengal BJP, put forward the name of Asim Kumar Ghosh for Haryana Governor. Bhattacharya said that when Asim Kumar Ghosh was the President of West Bengal BJP, he was the General Secretary with him. Let us tell you that Sameep is lobbying for posts according to their stature for the party leaders who have been neglected so far in West Bengal.

Chakravarti’s tenure was more than 8 years.

Birendra Narayan Chakravarti holds the record for the longest tenure as Governor of Haryana. He was Governor from 15 September 1967 to 26 March 1976, i.e. a total of 8 years, 6 months and 11 days. The shortest tenure is recorded of Om Prakash Verma, who was Governor from 2 July 2004 to 7 July 2004, i.e. just 6 days.

He was the acting governor, who was appointed after the term of former governor Babu Parmanand ended and before the appointment of new governor A.R. Kidwai. Apart from him, Ranjit Singh Narula was the governor for 139 days from 27 March 1976 to 13 August 1976.

Pushpapati Ashok Gajapati Raju has been made the Governor of Goa, while Kavinder Gupta has been appointed the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh. President Draupadi Murmu accepted the resignation of Brigadier Dr. BD Mishra (Retired) from the post of Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory of Ladakh, after which a new Lieutenant Governor has been appointed.
