BSF enhances vigilance along Indo-Bangladesh Border, says Tripura CM

Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha announced on Sunday that the Border Security Force (BSF) is actively ensuring the safety of the 856 km border with Bangladesh. This is achieved through effective fencing, the use of surveillance technology, and building strong ties with local communities.

During the 60th Raising Day celebration of the BSF at their frontier headquarters, senior officials reported that 675 illegal immigrants from Bangladesh were apprehended this year, including 55 Rohingyas, and illegal goods valued at Rs 46 crore were confiscated.

Saha, who also oversees the Home Department, emphasized the introduction of new technologies to bolster border vigilance and highlighted ongoing efforts to enhance border fencing and improve the welfare of BSF personnel. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring their safety.

He also pointed out the need to tackle advanced technological threats from terrorists, stating that the BSF plays a crucial role in combating smuggling, cross-border infiltration, and illegal migration.

In July, at the Inspector General-level Border Coordination Conference in Shillong, discussions were held between the BSF and the Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) to improve coordination on key issues, promote the welfare of border communities, and strengthen relations between the two neighboring nations.

Additionally, BSF officials noted their efforts during recent unrest in Bangladesh, where they collaborated with the BGB and other agencies to assist in the safe return of Indian students and workers. The BSF also provided support during recent floods in Tripura, reaffirming its dedication to protecting the international borders and working closely with stakeholders to ensure the security and welfare of the state.
