Canada's donation of new air defence system arrives in Ukraine

Canada: On November 23, Canadian Defence Minister Bill Blair announced that Canada has successfully delivered a National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System (NASAMS) to Ukraine. This system is intended to bolster Ukraine’s air defence capabilities amid ongoing threats to military sites, critical infrastructure, and civilian areas.

Since February 2022, Canada has also provided over 300 air defence missiles from the Canadian Armed Forces’ stockpile. The NASAMS, procured from the United States and produced by Raytheon in collaboration with Kongsberg, represents a prioritized contribution to Ukraine’s defence.

Blair emphasized Canada’s unwavering support for Ukraine and its commitment to enhancing assistance in response to Russia’s invasion. He also expressed gratitude to the United States and Norway for their cooperation in facilitating the delivery of this vital air defence system. The NASAMS is designed to defend against drones, missiles, and aircraft, boasting a strong success rate in combat scenarios.
