New Delhi: In anticipation of the upcoming Budget Session of Parliament, the Centre has convened an all-party meeting today.
The Budget Session is set to begin on January 31, with President Droupadi Murmu addressing both Houses of Parliament on Friday to officially launch the session. On the same day, the Finance Minister will present the “economic survey,” followed by the General Budget on Saturday. The Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha will discuss the Motion of Thanks in response to the President’s Address on Monday, February 3.
Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Kiren Rijiju, mentioned that the all-party meeting aims to facilitate smooth proceedings during the session. The Budget Session will be divided into two phases, starting with the first phase from January 31 to February 13, during which the Union Budget will be presented on February 1. The second phase will take place from March 10 to April 4.
According to the Parliamentary Bulletin, discussions are scheduled for February 3, 4, and 6, with a reply expected on February 6 regarding the Motion of Thanks on the President’s Address, which will be moved by one Member and seconded by another.
Rijiju also appealed to opposition leaders for cooperation, emphasizing the need for constructive discussions. He expressed hope that Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman would deliver a balanced and comprehensive budget on February 1. Reflecting on the previous winter session, he noted that disruptions had tarnished Parliament’s image and urged all members to actively participate in discussions to ensure the session runs smoothly.
