Mumbai: Television actress Chhavi Mittal, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2022, has strongly responded to a social media troll who mocked her for hair loss, a side effect of her ongoing cancer treatment. Chhavi, who is currently undergoing a decade-long hormone therapy, described the incident as the “death of humanity” and called for greater sensitivity towards cancer survivors.
The incident occurred when Chhavi posted a video of herself working out in the gym. A troll commented on her hair loss, saying, “Sir ke baal ud gaye aapke, treatment karwao.” In response, the actress shared a picture of herself from the gym and explained that her treatment has led to various side effects, including hot flashes, severe cramping, skin dryness, mood swings, weight fluctuations, and hair loss. She emphasised the emotional toll of such comments, stating that while she had already fought to retain her breast as part of her womanhood, losing her hair was another challenge she had to endure.
Chhavi also used the opportunity to highlight the toxicity of social media and the impact of insensitive remarks on cancer survivors. She pointed out that trolls often follow public figures not to support them but to criticise and mock. However, instead of retaliating with anger, she chose to respond with kindness, wishing the troll a life free from cancer and negativity. She also took a moment to celebrate her own resilience and hard work, encouraging others to focus on inner strength rather than external appearances.
The actress, who underwent surgery after her breast cancer diagnosis, has previously spoken about the emotional struggles she faced—not just due to the illness but also because of the way some of her own friends abandoned or judged her. Despite these challenges, Chhavi remains determined to inspire others with her journey, proving that true strength lies in overcoming adversity with grace and dignity.
