CM Mamata to soon reshuffle cabinet, likely to drop some ministers and bring new faces

Kolkata: A cabinet reshuffle in West Bengal is anticipated to begin early next year, with completion expected within two to three months. Sources from the Trinamool Congress indicate that the reshuffle will focus on departments directly linked to public services, as Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee aims to enhance their efficiency ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections.

The reshuffle will likely involve several key changes. Firstly, certain important departments currently overseen by ministers managing multiple portfolios may be assigned dedicated ministers to improve operational efficiency. This could lead to the induction of new faces into the cabinet.

Secondly, some existing ministers may see changes to their departments, resulting in potential losses of their portfolios and the introduction of new members. Additionally, some ministers of state may be promoted to cabinet positions.

Discussions regarding the reshuffle began in August, and if all goes well, the process is set to commence at the start of the new year. Recently, the Chief Minister outlined specific individuals responsible for party matters, legislative affairs, and administrative tasks, emphasizing a preference for experienced members over newcomers. She also hinted at a review of the current leadership within the youth and student wings of the Trinamool Congress.
