Cold wave grips Rajasthan, visibility less than 30 metres amid dense fog

Jaipur: Rajasthan is currently experiencing a severe cold wave, with dense fog reducing visibility to less than 30 meters in various cities. Areas such as Jaipur, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Churu, Sriganganagar, Barmer, Kota, Ajmer, Alwar, Bharatpur, Dausa, Jhunjhunu, Sawai Madhopur, and Sikar are all affected by the heavy fog, while temperatures have dropped significantly.

The lowest recorded temperature was 5.2 degrees Celsius in Sirohi, and Jaisalmer also registered a low of 5.5 degrees Celsius. Many other cities reported minimum temperatures ranging from 5 to 9 degrees Celsius. For instance, Ajmer had 6.2 degrees Celsius, Bhilwara 6 degrees, Alwar 9.5, and Jaipur recorded 7.2 degrees Celsius, among others.

Additionally, intermittent rains and hailstorms have contributed to the cold conditions. Overnight temperatures in cities like Jaipur, Sikar, Churu, and Ajmer plunged by 6 degrees Celsius, leading to extreme cold on Monday morning. Meteorologists have issued a yellow alert for cold wave conditions in 12 districts, with forecasts indicating that this cold spell may persist for another 3-4 days, and it could get even colder, with temperatures potentially dropping by an additional 2 to 3 degrees Celsius.

On Sunday, the highest daytime temperature recorded was 25.8 degrees Celsius in Phalodi, while Barmer reached 24.8 degrees Celsius, and temperatures in Jalore, Jaisalmer, and Jodhpur hovered around 23 degrees Celsius. Other cities reported maximum temperatures between 17 and 22 degrees Celsius.
