New Delhi: The Congress Party released its manifesto for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, at AICC headquarters in Delhi. The party has called its manifesto as ‘Nyay Patra’.
The Manifesto is launched by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi, and Senior leader KC Venugopal.
Paanch Nyay
The party’s election manifesto focuses on ‘Paanch Nyay’ or five pillars of justice, including ‘Yuva Nyay’, ‘Naari Nyay’, ‘Kisaan Nyay’, ‘Shramik Nyay’ and ‘Hissedari Nyay’ as well as the guarantees made by it to the people as part of its poll promises for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
The party in its manifesto also says that the party will conduct a nationwide Socio-Economic and Caste Census to enumerate the castes and sub-castes and their socio-economic conditions and it will pass a constitutional amendment to raise the 50 per cent cap on reservations for SC, ST and OBC.
Main Highlights from Congress Manifesto:
- Reservation of one-half (50 per cent) of central government jobs for women starting in 2025.
- Appointment of more women to high positions such as judges, secretaries to governments, high-ranking police officers, law officers and directors on the board of listed companies.
- Mahalakshmi Scheme: Congress resolves to launch a Mahalakshmi scheme to provide Rs 1 lakh per year to every poor Indian family as an unconditional cash transfer. The poor will be identified among the families in the bottom of the income pyramid.
- Rajasthan model of Health of cashless health insurance up to Rs 25 lakh will be adopted for universal health care.
- Raising the amount of pension: Congress in its manifesto said, central government’s contribution to pensions for senior citizens, widows and persons with disabilities under the National Social Assistance Programme remains a pitiful Rs 200-Rs 500 per month. Congress will raise this amount to Rs 1,000 per month.
