Bengaluru: A tragic case has emerged in Bengaluru where a police officer, H.C. Thippanna, aged 34 and a Head Constable at the Hulimavu Traffic Police Station, took his own life, allegedly due to abuse from his wife and father-in-law. Thippanna died by suicide on Friday night on the railway tracks between Heelalige Railway Station and Carmelaram Husaguru Railway Gate.
In a suicide note, he held his wife and father-in-law responsible for his distress, stating that he felt driven to this extreme action. He described receiving threats from his father-in-law, Yamunappa, who allegedly called him on December 12, threatening him and telling him that his daughter would be better off without him. The police have initiated an investigation, registering a case under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS).
Thippanna’s body has been moved to a hospital mortuary for further examination. He hailed from Handiganuru village in the Vijayapura district.
This incident follows another suicide case involving Atul Subhash, who also reportedly ended his life due to harassment from his wife, Nikita Singhania, and her family. Subhash left behind a 90-minute video and a note detailing the pressures he faced, including a demand for a Rs 3 crore divorce settlement. In his note, he expressed his despair over the judicial system and called for justice for men facing similar harassment, even reaching out to high-profile figures like President Droupadi Murmu and U.S. President-elect Donald Trump for help.
