Cyclone Fengal: CM Stalin donates one month's salary for relief fund

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin has donated his one-month salary to the Chief Minister’s Public Relief Fund (CMPRF) to support the relief efforts in districts affected by Cyclone Fengal. The Chief Minister presented a cheque for this contribution to State Chief Secretary N. Muruganandam. This act is expected to encourage similar donations from DMK MLAs, MPs, celebrities, and members of civil society.

Earlier, CM Stalin launched a relief mission by sending one lakh kilograms of rice and other supplies from the DMK headquarters, Anna Arivalayam. Health Minister and District Secretary Ma Subramanian coordinated the efforts.

CM Stalin has also requested Rs 2,000 crore in interim relief from the central government, highlighting that Tamil Nadu has been working relentlessly to manage the aftermath of natural disasters, despite receiving limited financial aid from the Centre.

A comprehensive relief package has been announced, including Rs 5 lakh for families who lost members due to the cyclone and floods, Rs 2,000 for ration card holders in Villupuram, Cuddalore, and Kallakurichi, and assistance for farmers whose crops were severely damaged. Additionally, Rs 10,000 will be provided to families whose mud huts were destroyed.

The state government will set up special camps in affected areas to reissue lost documents such as voter IDs, Aadhaar cards, and family cards. Students from affected families will also receive new textbooks and notebooks. District Collectors from the hardest-hit regions—Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, and Tiruvannamalai—have been asked to submit detailed reports on the areas most impacted by the disaster.
