Madhya Pradesh: In a tragic incident in Shivpuri district, Madhya Pradesh, a 30-year-old Dalit man named Vishnu Jatav died from injuries sustained after being brutally beaten. Four suspects have been detained in connection with the attack, which occurred on Tuesday under the jurisdiction of Subhashpura police station.
The assault was recorded and shared on social media, showing Jatav being hit repeatedly with sticks and pipes by a group of men in a field in Indergarh village, while bystanders, including women, looked on. The attack continued even after he collapsed, and he was later taken to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Following the video’s circulation, police launched an investigation. Eight individuals, including the head of the local gram panchayat, have been charged with murder, with four suspects still at large. According to police, the motive behind the attack was a land dispute.
Subhashpura police station in-charge Kripal Singh Rathor confirmed that an FIR has been filed and stressed that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects. Meanwhile, the Opposition Congress party has criticized the state’s law enforcement, claiming that Madhya Pradesh has become unsafe for Dalits and Tribals, with Congress leader Arun Yadav condemning the state’s law and order situation.
