Former Congress MLA shot in Bilaspur area of Himachal; investigation underway

Bilaspur: In Himachal Pradesh, former Congress MLA from Bilaspur, Bamber Thakur, was shot at on Friday. Along with Bamber Thakur, his personal security officer (PSO) was also injured. Bamber has been referred to IGMC Shimla and the PSO to Bilaspur AIIMS.

The police have registered a case and started further action. The police have put up a blockade in the entire city. They have claimed to arrest the accused soon.

According to information, Bamber Thakur was playing Holi with his supporters in the government house allotted to his wife in Chandra Sector. During this, some unknown people fired 10 to 12 rounds at him. In this, Bamber Thakur got hit by one bullet and his PSO got hit by 3 bullets. Both of them bled profusely.

Both of them were brought to Bilaspur Hospital for first aid, but from here they were referred to different hospitals.

SP said- The accused will be arrested soon

Bilaspur SP Sandeep Dhawal said that Bamber Thakur was shot in the thigh, while the PSO was shot in the leg, back and thigh. Whether he was shot or hit by pellets will be clear from the doctor’s report. He said that the people who fired the bullets will be identified and arrested soon.

Bamber was attacked earlier also

Bamber Thakur has been attacked once before. On 23 February 2024, one of his teeth was broken in an attack outside the office of the railway line construction company. A case was then registered against 11 accused. After this, the main accused of the attack was shot outside the Bilaspur court premises on 20 June 2024. In this case, 5 accused including Bamber’s son were arrested.

Bamber Thakur became MLA from Bilaspur in 2012

He reached the assembly by contesting elections from Bilaspur on a Congress ticket in 2012. He lost the election to Subhash Thakur in 2017 and to Trilok Jamwal in 2022. Bamber Thakur was considered close to former Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh.
