New Delhi: Leaders around the world are paying tribute to India’s former Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, who passed away recently. Prominent figures from neighboring countries, including the Maldives and Afghanistan, have expressed their condolences, celebrating his remarkable contributions to economic growth and diplomacy.
Former Afghan President Hamid Karzai took to X to honor Dr. Singh, calling him “an unwavering ally and friend to the people of Afghanistan.” Karzai expressed his sorrow, stating, “India has lost one of its most illustrious sons. I profoundly mourn his passing and extend my deepest condolences to his family, the government, and the people of India. May his soul find eternal peace.”
Former Maldivian President Mohamed Nasheed also expressed his sadness on X, remembering Dr. Singh as a “benevolent father figure” and a dear friend of the Maldives: “So sad to hear Manmohan Singh has passed. I always found him a delight to work with, and like a benevolent father figure. He was a good friend of the Maldives.”
Denis Alipov, the Russian Ambassador to India, emphasized Dr. Singh’s vital role in strengthening Indo-Russian relations. He posted on X, “It is a moment of poignant sorrow for India and for Russia. Dr. Manmohan Singh’s contribution to our bilateral ties was immeasurable. His suave demeanor and expertise as an economist were always endearing, as was his commitment to India’s progress.”
Dr. Singh served as India’s Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014 and passed away on Thursday at the age of 92 after being admitted to AIIMS due to declining health. Celebrated as the architect of India’s 1991 economic reforms, he significantly transformed the country’s economic landscape, modernizing policies and integrating India into the global economy.
Known for his humility, intellect, and dedication to public service, Dr. Singh leaves a legacy of progress and prosperity that continues to inspire global leaders.
