Gaza: Hamas has announced that indirect negotiations with Israel have resumed in Doha, Qatar, aimed at establishing a complete ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. In a statement, Hamas expressed its commitment and optimism regarding the talks, which will focus on achieving a comprehensive ceasefire, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, and the safe return of displaced Palestinians to their homes.
Israel has also confirmed its participation, sending a delegation to Doha that includes members from the Mossad, Shin Bet, and the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). Recently, reports indicated that Hamas proposed a one-week ceasefire during which they would identify the location of hostages held in Gaza and provide a list of those eligible for release; however, Israel has not officially responded to this proposal.
These negotiations, facilitated by Qatar, Egypt, and the United States, have been ongoing for over a year. Meanwhile, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz has warned that military operations in Gaza will escalate if Hamas does not reach a deal for the release of hostages soon.
The conflict between Israel and Hamas has been ongoing since October 7, 2023, following a Hamas attack that resulted in 1,200 Israeli deaths. In retaliation, Israel launched extensive air and ground assaults on Gaza, which have led to over 45,500 Palestinian casualties.
