India successfully tests long-range hypersonic missile

New Delhi: The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully conducted a flight trial of a long-range hypersonic missile off the coast of Odisha.

Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh announced this significant achievement on Sunday, highlighting that it positions India among a select group of nations with such advanced military technologies.

The missile was tested from Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Island, with senior DRDO scientists and armed forces officials present during the trial.

Rajnath Singh praised the armed forces and industry partners for their collaboration on the successful launch, stating, “India has achieved a major milestone by successfully conducting a flight trial of a long-range hypersonic missile. This historic moment places our country among select nations with critical and advanced military capabilities. Congratulations to Team @DRDO_India, our armed forces, and the industry for this remarkable achievement.”

This hypersonic missile can carry various payloads over distances greater than 1,500 km for all branches of the Indian Armed Forces. It has been indigenously developed by the Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Missile Complex in Hyderabad, in collaboration with several DRDO laboratories and industry partners.

Hypersonic missiles travel at speeds exceeding Mach 5, making them difficult for adversaries to detect and intercept. This successful trial enhances India’s strategic deterrence and national security capabilities.

Further details are expected soon.
