Major Mishap Averted as Train Stops at Open Gate in Nakodar, Jalandhar

Punjab, Jalandhar: A serious accident was averted at the Lohiyan railway crossing in Nakodar of Jalandhar district of Punjab when a train suddenly arrived despite the gate being open. Due to the presence of mind of the driver, the train was stopped before the gate by applying emergency brakes, thus averting a major accident.

On investigation it was found that the gateman was fast asleep in the cabin at that time. The driver and the guard got down from the train and tried to wake him up, but he did not wake up. They were forced to close the gate themselves. In this process many two-wheelers got stuck inside the gate. After this the driver and the guard sent the train towards Lohiya railway station.

People said- the gateman was found drunk even before this

Let us tell you that this gateman was earlier also found guilty of negligence on his duty. On 26 May last year, he kept the gate closed for hours under the influence of alcohol, due to which people had to face problems in the scorching sun. Then he was transferred to Ferozepur. But now he has been posted again at the same gate.

Information about the action taken by the railway administration in this case is not available. But this incident highlights the negligence of the railway administration and the irresponsible working style of the gateman. This incident also shows the quick thinking of the driver and the guard to avert a major accident.
