A junior doctor tragically died on Monday after reportedly falling from the third floor of the hostel at the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) campus in Jharkhand, according to police. The incident occurred late on the night of October20 in Block4 of the hostel. The deceased, identified as Akash, a second-year postgraduate student, was accompanied by a female friend who has been hospitalized due to injuries.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the case may be a suicide, though further details will emerge as the inquiry continues. Rajeev Ranjan, a PRO at RIMS, stated that security personnel heard a loud thud when the pair allegedly jumped. He confirmed to ANI that the incident occurred around10:30 PM, involving an orthopaedic second-year student who jumped with a girl not associated with RIMS. Guards immediately responded to the scene upon receiving the report.
The official added that the woman, who suffered shoulder injuries, is now recovering. “Both were taken to the hospital; unfortunately, Akash passed away two hours later, while the female is out of danger but has shoulder injuries. Fortunately, none of the injuries are life-threatening.”
The official also noted that it remains unclear whether the incident was a suicide, as CCTV footage is being reviewed, and a thorough investigation is ongoing.
