Manipur: Security forces conduct search operations, install 94 checkpoints

Imphal (Manipur): Security forces recently carried out extensive search operations in the vulnerable areas of both the hill and valley districts in Manipur, as confirmed by the state police. They ensured the secure movement of vehicles transporting essential goods, providing security convoys to sensitive locations.

The Manipur police reported on X that search operations and area domination were implemented in at-risk regions, with a total of 262 and 336 vehicles escorted along NH-37 and NH-2, respectively. Authorities have taken strict security measures at various vulnerable spots, including the establishment of 94 checkpoints throughout the state to enhance safety. The police noted that no individuals were detained for violations during this operation.

Earlier in the week, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) registered new cases in connection with recent violence in Jiribam, among others, following orders from the Ministry of Home Affairs. They have initiated a thorough investigation into three significant incidents tied to the violence in Manipur, including an attack on November 11 when armed militants fired upon Borobekra Police Station and surrounding homes and shops, resulting in a retaliatory exchange of gunfire by police and CRPF personnel. Subsequent search operations discovered two dead bodies.

In Parliament, the Congress party has requested a discussion regarding the situation in Manipur. Congress MP Hibi Eden submitted an adjournment motion notice in the Lok Sabha, urging the government to take responsibility and implement immediate actions to restore peace and justice. The notice highlighted the severe implications of the ongoing conflict, which has led to numerous deaths, mass displacements, and widespread destruction since last year. It also criticized the state administration for perceived bias in handling the conflict and inadequate responses to rising tensions, and noted that inflammatory content and the actions of armed groups are further undermining trust among communities. The notice called for urgent action to address the deteriorating conditions in Manipur and protect India’s democratic values.
