On Monday, Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu announced the government’s intention to introduce legislative measures aimed at addressing bomb threats to airlines.
This could involve placing individuals who make such threats on a no-fly list. Recently, Indian airlines have faced a significant surge in bomb threats, with nearly100 flights receiving such alerts in just one week.
During a press briefing held in the national capital, Naidu emphasized that the government is planning amendments to both the aviation security regulations and the Suppression of Unlawful Acts Against the Safety of Civil Aviation Act of1982. These changes aim to enhance the safety and security of civil aviation in the country.
Furthermore, he noted that the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) is in constant communication with the Ministry of Home Affairs to discuss and monitor the ongoing situation regarding bomb threats to flights. The government’s proactive approach signals a commitment to ensuring passenger safety and maintaining the integrity of the aviation sector amid rising security concerns.
This initiative underscores the importance of legislative measures in effectively responding to and preventing unlawful acts against civil aviation.
