No season should be off-season for Uttarakhand, says PM Modi

Harsil: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his visit to Harsil on March 6, highlighted the importance of promoting year-round tourism in Uttarakhand to boost its economy, emphasizing that “no season should be off-season” for the region.

In his address to a large gathering, PM Modi extended his condolences to the families affected by the recent tragedy in Mana, offering words of support for the bereaved. He also praised Uttarakhand’s spiritual significance, expressing gratitude for being able to visit the winter home of Goddess Ganga. He referred to the state as “Devbhoomi,” a land filled with spiritual energy, and shared his joy in meeting the people there.

Recalling his personal connection with Uttarakhand, he spoke of his deep bond with the state, attributing his service to the blessings of Maa Ganga, which also guided him to serve as a parliamentarian in Kashi. He expressed his love and gratitude for the local women who send him produce like the famous red grams from Harsil.

Reflecting on his earlier visit to Kedarnath, PM Modi reiterated his vision for Uttarakhand’s growth, stating that this decade belongs to the state. He emphasized that the state’s potential lies in enhancing winter tourism, which has traditionally seen lower numbers post-June, leading to economic struggles. He stressed the importance of promoting tourism year-round, with winter being a particularly special time to experience the true essence of Uttarakhand through activities like trekking, skiing, and unique religious ceremonies.

PM Modi also praised the state’s tourism vision, noting the importance of initiatives like the Char Dham All-Weather Road, modern expressways, and the development of railway and air travel. He highlighted the Kedarnath and Hemkund ropeway projects, which will improve accessibility for the elderly, women, and children. In conclusion, he celebrated the growing number of pilgrims visiting Char Dham this year, which signifies the state’s increasing appeal as a spiritual and adventure tourism hub.
