Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has called on the public to share information regarding the stampede near Shree Gundicha Temple in Puri during the Rath Yatra, which left three dead and 50 injured. This appeal aims to aid a transparent investigation into the tragic incident.
How to Share Information
The Planning and Convergence department issued a public notice inviting people to submit details, videos, or any relevant materials via email at puritragedy.enquiry@odisha.gov.in by July 20. People can also meet officials in Bhubaneswar on July 9 and in Puri on July 10 after 3 pm to share their inputs.
Helpline and Meetings
The government has provided landline numbers for people to pass on information. Interested individuals are encouraged to contact authorities to assist the investigation, which is being led by Development Commissioner Anu Garg.
Investigation and Oversight
Anu Garg has already visited the scene and consulted stakeholders, including police. She is expected to submit a report within 30 days, identifying causes and responsible parties, and suggesting future safety measures.
Ongoing Inquiries and Administrative Actions
A four-member team has been formed to assist Garg in completing the inquiry quickly. Following the incident, the government transferred key officials and suspended two police officers for negligence. Senior IAS officer Aravind Agarwal now supervises Rath Yatra, along with IPS officer Soumendra Priyadarshi overseeing police arrangements.
