PM Modi, Iranian President Pezeshkian discuss ways to strengthen cooperation

Russia: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held talks with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian during the 16th BRICS Summit in Kazan, focusing on enhancing bilateral ties. This was their first meeting since Pezeshkian took office in July. Modi congratulated Pezeshkian on his election victory and extended an invitation for him to visit India, which Pezeshkian accepted.

The leaders explored ways to boost cooperation across various sectors and emphasized the importance of Chabahar Port for Afghanistan’s reconstruction and economic links with Central Asia. Modi voiced his concerns about the escalating conflicts in West Asia, calling for diplomatic efforts and the protection of civilians.

Their discussion also covered regional issues and collaboration in multilateral forums like BRICS and SCO. This visit to Russia for the summit marks Modi’s second trip to the country this year, reflecting India’s commitment to engagement in the region.
