Chandigarh: Amid scorching heat in Punjab, the State government has already preponed the summer holidays for state-school students. Yesterday the govt announced early vacations for all government, private, and aided schools in the state that are beginning from today. The holidays began today, i.e. May 21, and will last till June 30.
The decision to advance the summer holidays has been taken in view of the prevailing heatwave. IMD has predicted that mercury will soar high in coming days. The experts have advised not going out during peak hours if not necessary, wearing loose clothes, and remaining hydrated.
Day before advancing the summer holidays, Punjab government had revised the school timings of state. The timing of the schools was changed to 7am to 12pm. Earlier schools in Punjab were working between 8am to 2pm.
In the order issued by government regarding preponing of holidays in schools, it is also mentioned that teaching/Non teaching staff would continue to come to school and perform their election related duties. Punjab will undergo polling in the final phase of June 1.
