Chandigarh: In a major breakthrough, Punjab Police in joint operation with Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) arrested a drug smuggler from Gurdaspur. After detain the smuggler sent him to dibrugarh jail in Assam. officilas told that notorious drug smuggler Balwinder Singh @ Billa from Gurdaspur city area was involved in international drug smuggling and has direct links with smugglers sitting in Pakistan. More than ten cases of NDPS Act stand registered against Billa, who was presently on bail.
He is involved in trans-border drug smuggling networks with Pakistani smugglers. Punjab police official said that the Balwinder Singh @ Billa detained under order u/s 3(1) Prevention of Illicit Traffic in NDPS Act (PITNDPS)and will be lodged in Dibrugarh jail during the detention period.
This is the first case in the state when someone has been detained under the sections of NDPS and transferred to a jail in another state. It is clear that the Punjab government is now on action mode against drug smugglers.
