SBSSU holds 2nd Board of Governor meeting chaired by Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains

Gurdaspur, July 12: The 2nd Meeting of the Board of Governors Sardar Beant Singh State University, Gurdaspur, was held ( 11.7.2025) in the Office of the Hon’ble Minister of Technical Education & Industrial Training, Punjab cum-Chairman, Board of Governors, SBSSU, Gurdaspur Sh. Harjot Singh Bains.

Dr. S. K. Misra, Vice-Chancellor of SBSSU, extended a warm welcome to the Chairman, Sh. Harjot Singh Bains and all esteemed Members of the Board of Governors on the 2nd Board meeting. He outlined his vision and the proactive steps being undertaken to fulfil the government’s mandate of introducing an Entrepreneurial Mindset course at the University from the academic session 2025–26.

New Centers of Excellence proposed

Dr. Misra presented his comprehensive vision plan aimed at transforming SBSSU into a preferred hub of higher education by ensuring quality teaching, state-of-the-art infrastructure, and a student-centric learning environment. He further shared that the University is planning to establish Centers of Excellence in emerging technologies such as Drone Technology, Artificial Intelligence, and Robotics, with a strong emphasis on skill development, research, innovation, and fostering a vibrant startup ecosystem.

Hon’ble Chairman Sh. Harjot Singh Bains appreciated the steps taken by the university in last few years especially the improvement in admissions in the university.

The following key suggestions were made by the Hon’ble Chairman Sh. Bains :

1. Admissions need to improve continuously and must maintain detailed and accurate data on admission trends to inform strategic planning.

2. As the main focus of the government is on employability and startups, so it is imperative that every student be trained in entrepreneurship, startup and employability skills. Students should be encouraged to generate business ideas or prepare for meaningful employment. Data related to such initiatives must be systematically maintained starting this year. The University is expected to actively support and align with all government-driven initiatives in this regard.

3. Cutting-edge programs such as Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, and FinTech should be introduced into the academic curriculum at the earliest to equip students with skills relevant to the evolving job market and technological landscape.

4. Faculty development program is the need of the hour. While collaborations with IITs are valuable, the University should also seek partnerships with other premier institutions in India and abroad to organize comprehensive faculty training and development programs

5. Research is the most important part for a university. Any university is known by its research standards. The university must identify region-specific research areas and work collaboratively with local administration to undertake research that directly benefits the local community and contributes to regional development.

6. Seminars and workshops must be conducted with sincerity and purpose. Eminent industry leaders, Vice Chancellors and Directors of premier institutions, and subject experts should be regularly invited to share knowledge, inspire students, and enhance academic exposure.

7. The university should organize Event every month related to social or cultural themes regularly. Such events should involve inviting distinguished personalities — including celebrities, scientists, policymakers, and thought leaders — to foster a vibrant and joyful university environment.
