Rahul Gandhi to visit Sambhal today, Cong workers rally in support

New Delhi: Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to visit Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, today, and his supporters have gathered at the Congress headquarters to show their backing. Congress worker Itrat Hussain Babar expressed that Gandhi promotes love and brotherhood in every location he visits, encouraging unity between Hindus and Muslims. He condemned recent incidents involving both the public and police.

Another Congress member, Haji Maqbool Alam, mentioned that Gandhi’s visit aims to assess the current situation in Sambhal, and they have come to welcome him. Sardar Balbir Singh also voiced strong support, hoping that Gandhi’s efforts will prompt the administration to heed the people’s concerns.

Babar clarified that the issues in Sambhal are related to the police and a mosque, not a Hindu-Muslim conflict, emphasizing Gandhi’s mission to maintain peace and harmony. Meanwhile, Congress workers at the Ghazipur border raised slogans in support of him.

On security, ACP Indirapuram Swatantra Kumar Singh stated that precautionary measures have been implemented and that they will adhere to all directives. This visit comes in light of restrictions imposed by the district administration on outsider entry until December 10, following violent incidents during a survey of the Shahi Jama Masjid that resulted in five fatalities.

Gandhi, along with newly-elected Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and five other Congress MPs from Uttar Pradesh, will visit Sambhal, which has experienced unrest since November 19, when a court-ordered survey of the Mughal-era mosque led to claims of a temple’s prior existence at the site. Violence erupted during a second survey on November 24, resulting in clashes between protesters and security forces.
