Retired inspector of Punjab Police commits suicide

Punjab: Former Punjab Police Inspector Sukhvinder Randhawa committed suicide by shooting himself at his residence in Akrup Avenue on Majitha Road on Thursday. Randhawa had been depressed for some time. He was facing multiple investigations, including a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe related to a shootout near a toll plaza in Jandiala Guru, among other cases. The reasons behind his suicide are not yet clear.

Upon receiving information about the incident, ACP Shivdarshan Singh, Station House Officer Vinod Sharma, and other officials arrived at the scene and began an investigation. The police have taken possession of the body and sent it for post-mortem. According to police officials, the bullet struck the former inspector in the forehead. Currently, forensic teams are investigating the case.

Former inspector Sukhvinder Singh possessed both government and private firearms. The police are investigating which pistol he used to shoot himself. The deceased’s son, Amandeep Singh Randhawa, is currently assigned to the CIA staff. ACP Shivdarshan Singh, who reached the scene, stated that as soon as he learned about the suicide, he arrived with the police force.

ACP Shivdarshan Singh mentioned that the family is not in a position to explain the reasons for the former police inspector’s suicide. Regarding the ongoing shootout and CBI cases, he stated that police officers often have cases against them, but this should not necessarily be a reason for suicide. He remarked that the former inspector was a capable officer who solved several major cases during his career. Even after retirement, he continued to assist the police, and Punjab Police officials sought his help when needed. He emphasized that the Punjab Police stands with the family during this difficult time.
